As the universe slowly expands,
As stars are born and die,
We humans search for meaning
Somewhere in the skies.
Some find it deep in the cosmos,
Where others dare not look.
Some find it in the earthly realm
In a religious hist’ry book.
Some find no meaning, only life
And feel this is the end.
Some search all things endlessly
For broken hearts to mend.
We paint design and reason
Into the tapestry of life
And seek to find some small escape
From all this pain and strife.
In the end, what do we find?
Is there any answer true?
We tear apart the wide world
To know what ancients knew.
This life is joyous, fruitful, pure,
If we simply take a breath.
The only truth we ever know
Is with this life comes death.
What lies beyond, what lies ahead,
No one can ever know
For some, the science proves it all;
For some, God will always show
His people what they should believe
And how to live their lives
For scientists, this does not suffice
And so into reason they dive.
But, whether through faith or reason
You choose answers to seek
The explanation is logical:
Life needs not be bleak.
Enjoy your time here on this Earth,
For it will surely pass
And at the end, old eyes look back
To see what yet may last.
